1K seat - FTOPS and BBT5

I should play these more often, my ROI is ridiculous given my win vs attempts ratio.

I unregistered and pocketed the 1K T dollars, but I did manage to pick up another T-shirt plus 2 bills after busting this dude during yesterdays FTOPS shootout event:

That sadly was the highlight of my FTOPS performance. I did manage to win my 1st table, but my 2nd table had a brutal lineup, and I wound up getting it AIPF with AK vs KQ, and as seems to be my theme in FTOPS, KQ got there.

I made a brief appearance in last nights Poker from the Rail BBT5 event. I think within the first 15 min or so, I made a set of ducks and my opponent turned a set of 8's, and that was the end of that. Congrats to Hoy for getting it done early, and taking the tournament and the TOC seat down.

BBT5 Invitational #2

I played my first invitational yesterday, albeit I arrive a bit late, as I had to pick my family up from the airport. When I got back, I still had about 2800 chips or so, and actually got back average stack pretty quickly.

I played a pretty solid game, and finally went out in around 3oth spot. Acumen53 aka Lee Childs, pushed all in over my utg raise with TT. I called and he showed up with KK and I didn't improve.
I considered a fold, but it would have left me with about 10 bets IIRC.

Next up is tonight's poker on the rail tournament, where another TOC seat will be up for grabs.

Here's the info:

Tournament: Poker From the Rail
When: Monday, April 19th through May 24th starting at 22:00ET
Game: Deepstack NLHE
Buyin: $24+2 (or token)
Password: 2010WSOP

Poker From The Rail BBT5

Made a nice showing in my first BBT5 event, but fell a little short. With 10 left, I flopped a baby flushed after calling a small button raise in the BB. Vinnay had flopped a set, and all the money went in, and he rivered a boat.

Mookie next up on Wednesday.

BBT5 Invitational kicked off

Big congrats to JJ for taking down the inaugural BBT5 tournament last night! Talk about getting it done efficiently! nice way to ride last years ME seat win!

I also want to take a moment to comment on Hoy's post today. Hoy, first off I appreciate what you wrote, and am very taken with your support of my inclusion in the Invitational, and even more-so by the offer you made. Many thanks Hoy, I don't know anyone else that would have done that, and I do truly appreciate it.

Having said that, I do not want to take any of your spots. I don't know what the selection criteria was, and I am ok if whatever that was left me out. I have always been grateful for what Al has done for our little network of bloggers, and after thinking the BBT4 would be the end of the series, I'm just happy that it's back, and that I can still partake in the open events.

So again, while grateful for your offer, let's just leave things as they are, and I'll be playing hard, and as many events as I can to try and qualify for the great prizes that are in play this time around.

Good luck to all, and see you on the virtual felt....

EDIT: Al sent me an email, and informed me that it was just an oversight, and I will be in future invitational events! Thanks Al, I appreciate that very much!

Ivey's Bluff on HSP

This is what Ivey does, and why he's the best.

The details below are from this article in Cardplayer, from a hand in yesterday's broadcast of High Stakes Poker:

Phil Ivey had plenty of reason to smile after last night's episode of High Stakes Poker.

Barry Greenstein opened to a $5,500 preflop raise with QClub Suit 10Diamond Suit. Ivey, who had just won the previous pot after firing a double-barrel bluff against Andrew Robl, decided to ignore the value of his cards once more, re-raising to $18,000 with his 5Spade Suit 2Diamond Suit.

That’s when Veldhuis decided to get involved — four-betting the action to $51,600 preflop with his KHeart Suit JHeart Suit.

Lex Veldhuis' four-bet would've worked against a lot of poker players, but it didn't work against Phil Ivey.To his credit, the Dutch pro showed moxie throughout his episodes on High Stakes Poker this season, constantly getting involved in the action and running more than a few bluffs against his tablemates. Unfortunately, for him, his competitors seemed to pick up on his aggression and turned it against him on contless occasions.

All the same, it seemed implausible that he would fail on this hand. Reading the situation excellently, Veldhuis put himself in position to win a nice-sized pot without even needing to see a flop.

But he was facing Ivey, and with Ivey, nothing is implausible.

The audience was reminded of that fact after the action returned to the Full Tilt pro once Greenstein got out of the way. Ivey asked how much more Veldhuis had behind in his stack, a question that seemed to HSP host Gabe Kaplan and probably most people who were watching to be a little bit of Hollywooding.

But after Veldhuis responded, “One-forty something,” Ivey pushed all in.

After seemingly making the determination that Veldhuis had enough behind to fold, Ivey five-bet preflop with just five-high. And sure enough, he was right. Veldhuis sighed and threw his hand into the muck.

Kaplan called it “one of the great bluffs in the history ofHigh Stakes Poker.”
